FAQs

Why has my account been sold?

It is common for banks and other lenders to sell accounts to debt purchase companies. Your account will already have been through their debt collection process before coming to us. We have specialist teams who can help people with all kinds of financial problems, including issues arising from job loss or bereavement. Our sole focus is on agreeing a repayment plan you can afford. Please call us on 01737 235238 and we can help.

Who is 1st Credit?

We are a debt purchase and collection company. We buy unpaid loan, credit card, store card and other debts from banks, credit card companies, retailers, and utility & telecom providers. We also collect debts on behalf of other lenders. You may also hear from Connaught, which is a subsidiary of 1st Credit.

When we buy your account, the money you owe on this account is owed to 1st Credit instead of the original lender. We do not add interest and charges. We want to work with you to help you clear your debts. We always take your financial circumstances into account and set up an affordable payment plan that allows you to repay your debts and get on with your life.

Please contact us to talk this through with one of our advisers.

How can I pay my outstanding account?

You can speak to one of our customer advisers directly by calling 01737 235238. Alternatively you can make a card payment by calling our automated 24 hour payment hotline on 0207 107 1243 or by using our online payment page.

If you are struggling with debt you may wish to contact a free and independent debt adviser to help you. You can find a list of those organisations here.

How much will I have to pay?

We will agree a plan that is realistic, affordable and reflects your current financial circumstances. Our customer advisers are trained to go through your finances with you to work out an affordable plan.

How much do I owe you?

We have sent you a letter explaining that we are either collecting your debt on behalf of one of our clients or on behalf of ourselves. This letter shows the amount we believe is owed. If you have any questions about this, please contact one of our customer advisers on 01737 235238.

What should I do if someone else is handling my accounts?

If you have instructed a third party to deal with your outstanding debts please ask them to contact us on 01737 235238. If you have appointed a debt management company then they can speak to our dedicated debt management team by calling the same number.

Customer Testimonials

  • “I did not feel as if I was a ‘nobody’ and my financial concerns were my problem alone. The company generally offered help and support for which I was extremely grateful. Sometimes we may all need a helping hand. I hated being in debt but I felt that 1st credit offered a reassuring hand and helped me over the hump, so to speak.

  • They have always been willing to listen and help when things change, I find them supportive and understanding.

  • After avoiding various debt collectors for years, I finally faced my problems and contacted 1st Credit after they’d had numerous unsuccessful attempts at contacting me. I found they were friendly and happy to help me resolve the situation I’d found myself in, leaving me wondering why I’d worried about contacting them in the first place.

  • I don’t get hassle from 1st Credit, they listen, if I’ve had a problem they help to get it resolved

  • I have had a few problems of my own and the staff who I have spoken to are always ready to listen and try their best as to how we move forward with my account.

  • I feel I can talk openly and honestly to the company and they do not make me feel ashamed about the situation.

  • My overall experience has been painless and positive – something that has been missing from dealing with other companies. When my circumstances have changed (even temporarily), the company has always changed plans to work with me in a beneficial manner, meaning that overall I do not have to panic about my situation as I am confident that 1st Credit will treat me fairly.
